The Multimodal Grain Benefits Model is designed to provide high-level estimates of the relative benefit to the grain sector of roadway infrastructure projects, inland waterways projects, and improvements to multimodal facilities. Benefits included in the analysis are as follows:
- vehicle operating cost savings,
- business time and reliability cost savings,
- personal time and reliability cost savings,
- safety benefits,
- freight time cost savings,
- environmental benefits,
- business output benefits, and
- wage income benefits.
Total benefits to the grain sector are shown as an output and represent a portion of these benefits, based on the percentage of grain products in the commodities moving through the project area. Total grain sector benefits do not include safety, environmental, business output, or income benefits, as these benefits do not accrue to the grain sector.
